The Chronomat Evolution, originally launched in 2004, first appeared in Breitling's catalogues in 2005. The Evolution was nothing less than a minor revolution and pointed the way forward for the future of the Breitling Chronomat:

• With the introduction of the Chronomat Evolution, the case became larger (43.7 mm) and taller overall (approximately 17.1 mm high).
• The shape of the case also changed: the Chronomat Evolution added more conventional horns.
• The water-resistant depth tripled to 300 meters.
• The range of models was also greater than ever: the watch was available with numerous dials, materials and colour variations. For example, The Chronomat Evolution was available in rose gold and yellow gold versions.

Five years after its launch, the Chronomat Evolution was renamed again in 2008. Since then, the watch has once again been sold under the Breitling Chronomat name, although the addition of the word Evolution is firmly anchored in the minds of many watch enthusiasts and is inseparably linked to the model.

Only a few months after its presentation, the Chronomat Evolution 2006 was also offered with Roman numerals and Baton indices instead of Arabic numerals. This rapid update illustrates the wide range of models available in the Evolution after only a short time. The introduction of Roman numerals was a concession by Breitling to those customers who preferred the Crosswind range, which was removed from the company's range when this version of the Chronomat Evolution was introduced.

In 2020, Breitling gave the Chronomat a facelift. The fresh cell treatment is a successful re-edition with which the luxury manufacturer has tastefully redesigned the Chronomat.
