The Mühle Glashütte collection

Hard-wearing, good-looking wrist watches – that's what Mühle Glashütte offers. Sporty instrument watches, nautical timepieces for adventures at sea, elegant options for all occasions – every watch lover will find a suitable stainless steel watch here.

Founded in 1868 as Robert Mühle and Sons in the area of Glashütte, Muhle Glashutte – as known in english speaking countries – has experienced a turbulent company history. Over the course of that period, the firm has changed names several times, until in 1994 Mühle-Glashütte GmbH triumphantly emerged.

  • As well as wristwatches, Muhle Glashutte continues to manufacture instruments for shipping.

  • Alongside nautical clocks, the company's product portfolio also includes classic dress timepieces and sporty instrument watches.

  • At the Baselworld watch and jewellery show in 2015, Mühle Glashütte presented four new watch models. The Teutonia II large date chronometer, the Teutonia II manual winding, the M 29 Classic single-hand watch and the Terrasport I all drew lots of attention.

Mühle Glashütte: A tumultuous company history

Loading...

Mühle Glashütte was originally founded in 1868 by Robert Mühle as Robert Mühle and Sons. It started off by making precision measuring devices for the local watchmaking industry. It was integrated into a larger overall system, in which watch production was divided into small, discrete steps and distributed among several different companies. For many years Robert Mühle & Sons played a key role in this process.

The company's product portfolio expanded in the 1920s under the leadership of Robert Mühle's sons, Paul, Alfred and Max. During this time it also manufactured measurement and display instruments for motor vehicles such as speed and rev counters.

During the Second World War, the company made parts for German tanks. Upon cease of hostilities, the Glashütte watchmaking industry was dismantled upon the orders of the Soviet occupying powers. Some parts of Mühle and Sons were integrated into the Zeiss works in Jena, and in 1972 the company was nationalized by the East German government.

After reunification

Revival of the Mühle Glashütte brand

After German reunification in 1990, the state-owned GDR companies were privatised once again. This brought about yet more fundamental change in the Glashütte watch industry. VEB Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe (GUB) became Glashütter Uhrenbetrieb GmbH. In 1994, Hans-Jürgen Mühle left this company to re-found his old family firm as Mühle-Glashütte GmbH Nautical Instruments and Precision Mechanics. Initially, it only manufactured professional marine chronometers, ship clocks and other nautical instruments, but in 1996 Muhle Glashutte also began producing automatic wristwatches.
