The Ref. 116400GV explained

It is no coincidence that Rolex gave Milgauss the reference number 116400GV. Like many other manufacturers, Rolex assigns the reference numbers according to a sophisticated system. The reference number 116400 has the following meaning:

  • Since the Ref. 116400GV is a six-digit reference, this model is a Rolex watch of the latest generation.
  • The "11" at the beginning of the reference number indicates a latest-generation calibre. The in-house movement 3131 installed in the Ref. 116400GV has a Parachrom hairspring and the Paraflex anti-shock system developed by Rolex.
  • The "0" at the end shows that this is a stainless steel model. A "3" at this point would indicate a material mix of stainless steel and yellow gold.
  • The "GV" stands for "glace verte", a designation used exclusively for the Rolex Milgauss. The glass of the watch has a green rim.

Glace verte

The green sapphire crystal used by Rolex in the Ref. 116400GV is unique in the watch industry. Rolex glass is created in a secret and sophisticated process, and its bevelled edges almost look as if it is glowing. Nevertheless, the sapphire crystal of Ref. 116400GV remains scratch-resistant and lightfast. Due to the impracticable complexity of manufacturing this glass, Rolex has not even patented the green glass.

Particularly when combined with the blue sunburst dial, the Ref. 116400GV is a perfect summer watch. The colour mix of the green glass, the blue dial and the orange hand make the watch into a true colour explosion.
